A Quick Visit To Ratcliffe-on-Soar
Ratcliffe on Soar power station has been on wish list to visit for a long time. I’ve been jealously watching people I follow take some amazing photos there.
Finally on a family camping trip I spotted we were nearby, and that it would only add 30 minutes to our journey home. A frantic packing up of the tent, bundling a toddler in the car and we just about had enough time, but it had to be quick. It turned it quick really did mean quick this time. I jumped out the car, frantically framed up some shots, moved vantage point slightly, and in the time it took to turn around, I had to hop back in, and on our way. Time from first to last photo was 6 minutes.
I’m not complaining about the whistlestop tour, it stopped me overthinking, and meant I didn’t worry about taking a photo that has already been done. Plus I don’t know when I might have another chance, and I can’t wait too long, as it’ll be gone completely soon.
The towers in person are absolutely huge, their scale took me by surprise. They are visible from miles away, looming large over the horizon as you approach on the motorway. I thought they would be smaller, I blame the Simpsons, I thought you could just get out and slide straight down
